Sharpe. Alfred


Alfred Sharpe. C 1830-C 1912.

 English born Alfred Sharpe attended the Birkenhead School of Art & trained as an Architect. Came to NZ some time in the late 1950's. Exhibited with the Auckland Society of Arts from the late 1870's till 1887. He was Secretary of the NZ Art Students Ass. 1884-85. His wife became ill in 1887? & he moved to Australia to join his brother in Newcastle. He continued to paint NZ scenes as well as Australian but changed his signature by leaving off the e between 1895 & 1912.

Alfred Sharpe although being deaf & unable to speak was also a poet & occassionaly contributed newspaper articles.

Melbourne INternational Exhibition 1880-81.

Centenial Exhibition Wellington 1940.

A watercolour artist held in very high regard who's works are displayed in many parts of the world.
